Rainbow Springs State Park Goes Reservation-Only April 29 — Reservations Are Open Right Now
FLORIDA SPRINGS · CAMPING · PADDLING
Quick heads up if you're planning a trip to Rainbow Springs State Park this spring: reservations for day-use visits opened this morning, and you've got exactly one week before the new mandatory reservation system goes live on April 29. After that date, no reservation means no entry — period.
This is one of my favorite springs in Florida, and I've seen the parking lot fill up and the gate close on a busy weekend more times than I can count. The new system is honestly a long time coming. But it does mean you need to plan ahead now in a way you didn't before.

Why It's Worth the Extra Step
I've paddled the Rainbow River a few times now and it never gets old. The water is crystal clear — you can see every grass bed and turtle below you — and it holds a steady 72°F year-round, which makes it perfect even on a warm April day. The current is gentle enough to be relaxing, though you'll get a workout if you paddle back upstream.
The campsites at the park are solid too — tucked back in the trees, with electric hookups available. It's a great base for a longer Florida springs road trip, and with the reservation system in place, you'll actually be guaranteed to get in once you're booked.

The Timeline — Where Things Stand Today
Here's where we are right now:
- April 1 — Parking lot renovation began, limited spots (already in effect)
- April 22 (TODAY) — Day-use reservations are now open
- April 29 — Mandatory reservations go live. No walk-ins after this date.
